Funding

The 2018 initial buildout of Virtual Tribunals on Spotlight at Stanford was supported by a grant from the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation, and focused on delivery of the trial records from the Special Panel for Serious Crimes, East Timor. The grant enabled us to address key architectural needs for the platform, including full text search across documents, improvements to the user experience for viewing documents, searching within individual documents (using the IIIF Content Search API), multilingual search, and support for translation of the user interface. While built to support the foundation of Virtual Tribunals, these features are now also broadly usable within other exhibits built on Spotlight at Stanford.

In 2020, generous funding from the Taube Philanthropies made possible the access and preservation of the digitized copy of the International Military Tribune (IMT) Archive, also known as the “Nuremberg Trial Archives.” In recognition of this support, this is known as the "Taube Archive of the International Military Tribunal (IMT) at Nuremberg 1945-1946" on this site.
