Dominique Fells
Dominique “Rem'mie” Fells was a 27-year-old transgender woman who was brutally murdered and dismembered. Her remains were discovered alongside the Schuylkill River in the Bartram's Garden area of Philadelphia on June 8, 2020. A suspect was identified in her murder on June 17, 2020.
Rem’mie was a dancer and artist and had plans of going back to school to become a fashion designer. Rem’mie’s friends said that she lived her truth so loud that you could hear her a mile away, and they want her to be remembered for her life as a lover of music, fashion and people. “She was great at sewing, great at taking old clothes and making them into something fashionable for her. The sky was unlimited for her. Unfortunately, her life was cut short,” said Roland Williams, Rem’mie’s uncle.
According to the Human Rights Campaign, at the time of Rem’mie’s death in 2020, there were at least 13 violent deaths of transgender or gender non-conforming people in the U.S. Transgender women of color represent a majority of those deaths.
