About this database

Opening Night! is a cross-index of data for over 43,000 opera and oratorio premieres occuring between the years 1589 and the present. Premieres through 1995 were originally presented in From Don to Giovanni: Opera and Oratorio Citation Database, created by Richard Parrillo. The original stand-alone database was migrated to a web-based platform, and updated to include premieres through 2015. Data was migrated again in 2019, to this Spotlight online discovery environment.

Historical notes provide detailed descriptions for each category, including content parameters and exceptions, and notes on forms of personal and geographical name entries.
