Streetcar Staff Portraits
Because William Gardiner worked for various transit companies, he had access to photos of a more internal nature, including what appears to be group portraits taken for employee or company publications. Unlike many photo collections which display railcar after railcar without a human in sight, this gallery highlights the people that were equally essential to these services. Here, one encounters conductors, brakemen, mechanics, managers, and even a commissary cook. Gardiner was also able to sometimes provide names for many of the faces.
