SCLC Civil Rights Campaigns, 1965-1966 101 items

100 years after Reconstruction, empowered by the Montgomery March and the 1965 Voting Rights Act, the Southern Christian Leadership Conference (SCLC), Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee (SNCC) and other civil rights organizations launched massive campaigns for voter registration as well as candidate recruitment and election. As volunteer SCLC staff, photographer Bob Fitch documented organizing work, including such projects as Operation Breadbasket and SCOPE (Summer Community Organization and Political Education). His dramatic images -- appearing in international media, black publications and local campaign leaflets -- attracted global support and encouraged local community participation.
