Exhibition Loans

Stanford Libraries regularly receive requests to lend original material to museums, galleries, libraries, and other institutions for exhibit. The exhibit loan policy guides consideration of each request. Permission to lend is given by the head of Special Collections (or whichever unit owns the item) after assessment and consultation with curators, Public Services staff, and Conservation. Since multi-venue loans can result in a collection item not returning to Stanford for months or years, we examine every request carefully.

Explore the various steps of the process by viewing the five items highlighted in the categories below. Each item has been exhibited at multiple venues.
